Dan Murphy

A graduate of Mercer University (B.A.), Emory (M.A.) and the University of Georgia (J.D.), Dan Murphy is the president and founder of the Center for School Law & Policy, Inc.  Dan is also a partner in the Winder, Georgia education law firm of McLocklin & Murphy, L.L.P., where he serves as General Counsel to the Georgia Association of School Business Officials (GASBO).

For the past decade, Dan’s practice has consisted almost exclusively of the representation of public schools in Georgia. Dan has presented on many education law issues, including Student Discipline, Special Education and Discipline, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, Harassment in the workplace, the Family and Medical Leave Act.  Dan is the co-author of The Fair Labor Standards Act in American Schools: A Guide for School Officials (Rowman &Littlefield, 2007), the American Association of School Personnel Administrators Guide to the Family & Medical Leave Act (AASPA, 2007) and the forthcoming Guide to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (Rowman & Littlefield, 2009). 

In addition, Dan has written the American Association of School Personnel Administrators 2009 FMLA Supplement and the upcoming Discipline and the Disabled Student (Rowman & Littlefield, 2010).  As a compliment to his law practice, numerous publications and professional development seminars through the Center for School Law & Policy, Dan also regularly teaches graduate level classes in Education Law, Human Resources Management in the K-12 Setting, and Educational Policy for several Georgia Colleges of Education.
